PE & Sports Premium Funding

The Government is providing funding to schools to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The purpose of the funding is to allow schools to spend the sport funding improving their provision of PE and sport.

Pupil Premium & Recovery Premium Information

Pupil Premium funding, which is in addition to the school’s main funding, is allocated to address inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and those children who are not. Schools are free to decide how to allocate this funding to best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.

Pupil premium has a number of wider aims:-

  • to increase social mobility
  • to reduce attainment gap between the highest/lowest achieving pupils nationally

Primary schools are currently allocated £1,345 per pupil for those families who have registered for FSM or who have been registered for FSM at any point during the past 6 years. Funding is also provided for children who are in care or have previously been in care and the children of Service Families. 

 In addition to Pupil Premium funding, school receives an allocation of ‘recovery premium’. The RP grant is part of the government’s package of funding to support disadvantaged pupils with their education recovery following the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This is a time-limited grant for the 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic years.

How is the funding used?

Extensive research shows the way the money is spent is crucial.  The choices we make at St Jude’s in allocating the money is vital so that our children can reach the full potential.

We recognise that barriers to achievement take a variety of forms and will do whatever it takes to support a child, both in and out of the classroom. We use all our resources to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to become an empowered learner.

How can I find out if my child is entitled to Pupil Premium funding?

The process is straightforward and confidential.  You can apply online using the Wigan Council service; https://finforms.wigan.gov.uk/Viewer-VicForms.asp?user=anon&Form=Wigan%20Education%20and%20Childcare%20Benefits%20Application%20(1.0).wdf .  You will be advised at the end of the process whether your child is eligible, not eligible or if more information is required.  If you require any assistance completing the form or if you do not have a PC then we, at school, will help you through the process. KS1 and Free School Meals

Since September 2014 all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have automatically been entitled to a free school lunch under the ‘Universal Free School Meals’ scheme.  However, parents registering for free school meals using the above link could raise an extra £1,345 for the school.  These funds enable our school to employ extra staff and invest in additional equipment, resources and activities for the benefit of all children.
