Year 6 Science
Today in Science, Y6 have been investigating the impact of exercise on their heart rate by measuring their pulse before and after 5 minutes of exercise in the glorious sunshine.

In Science, Year 5 have been observing the effects of air resistance on parachutes. They have been investigating to find the relationship between the surface area of the parachute and the resulting air resistance; measuring this by seeing the time it takes for them to reach the ground when dropped.
624
The children in Reception have been learning about their senses. They had the opportunity to taste different foods. they tasted foods that are salty, bitter, sour and sweet.
620
We measured the handspan of children from different classes. Even Mr Parry was part of the enquiry. We looked at the observations made and recorded what we found out.
608
In Reception we have been learning about people who help us, we looked at the job of a dentist. We then talked about how we can keep our teeth healthy. The children had a chance to practise their teeth brushing skills.
616
This morning in preschool we have been reading one of our termly stories “Meg and Mog” and in the story they made a potion, so preschool decided what an amazing idea it would be to make our own potion. We worked together to mix, pour and stir our amazing potion. We will keep checking our potion to see how it changes from a liquid to a solid. We look forward to updating you with our marvellous creations. ❤️
613
Our amazing potions are ready! ⭐️
We went to collect them from the kitchen, and we noticed they weren’t like water anymore. One child said “it’s wobbly!” ❤️
We then enjoyed our wonderful creation together for an afternoon snack. 💛
Well done preschool! 🧪🥰
583
In Science, we have learned about orbits and the 8 planets in our solar system. We all wrote our own quirky mnemonic to help us remember the order of the planets from the sun.
584
In Reception, the children have been learning about the season of Autumn. They had the opportunity to go on an Autumn walk around the school grounds to look for signs of Autumn. The children also rolled conkers in paint to create some fantastic pieces of art.
567
What a lovely morning we have had in our early years department this morning. ⭐️
We have been using our water play equipment, we have been pouring, mixing and strengthening our developing gross and fine motor skills.
627
This week, Y6 have been investigating shadows as part of our light topic.
584
In science the children have been exploring magnets and how they attract and repel. We talked about the north and south poles and how the same poles repel but the opposites attract.
570
Year 6 have been investigating the angle of reflected light using mirrors to create a human ‘periscope’.
577
Today in Y1, we have been learning about animals diets. We have been sorting different animals into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores using a venn diagram.

In Reception we have been exploring light and dark. The children enjoyed making shadow and finger puppets in class.
564
The children were investigating different magnets to see which one was the strongest. They used a ruler to measure when each of the magnets attracted the paper clip. They found that it didn’t matter on the size of the magnet.
553
In Science, we have been learning about how the Earth spins on its axis every 24 hours, which causes our night and day time. We have also been studying the effects of the Earth’s axis on seasons in the Northern and Southern hemispheres as the Earth orbits the Sun.
556
In Reception, the children have been learning about winter. They had chance to spot scenes of winter on a wonderful walk around the school grounds, they learnt about wearing appropriate clothes in winter to keep warm. They had the opportunity to explore freezing and melting with real life snow. They also painted some beautiful winter scenes.
561
In Science, the children have been investigating mixing materials with a liquid to discover if they are soluble or insoluble
534
Year 6 have been investigating how different voltages affect the way that components work in a circuit.
547
We have been experience with different rocks to find out which ones are permeable. The children tested the rocks by pouring water on them to see which rocks absorbed the water.
543
This week in Reception, the children have been exploring floating and sinking in our outdoor water area. They found different objects from inside and outside of the classroom to investigate whether they float or whether they sink.
526
Preschool have been enjoying playing in our mud kitchen and planting some herbs in our planting patch.

Y1 had a fantastic day out at Martin Mere. We learnt all about the wetlands and the animals who live there. We made nests, learnt and copied bird sounds and hunted for mini beasts. We even visited the park. A wonderful day out for everyone!
535
We had such an incredible day at Martin Mere. We loved learning about the wetlands and following Ava’s clues on the treasure hunt. It was great to learn about the wildlife that call Martin Mere their home.
629
For our Lent Walk this week, Y1 went on a Spring walk around the school grounds to observe the changes that occur when Spring arrives. We saw blue skies, new bulbs and even some birds nests. We talked to Mr Keen about the changes Spring brings and why he has covered up the vegetables and bulbs that have just been planted.
643
In Reception this week, the children have been learning about the season of spring. The children have been on a spring walk around the school grounds to look for signs of spring. The children have also created some beautiful observational paintings of spring flowers.
531
The reception children have been exploring magnets. They discovered that magnets stick to some objects, like metal, but not to others, like wood or plastic. They enjoyed testing what a magnet can pick up and were surprised by magnetic attraction and repulsion.
510
Reception went on a minibeast hunt around the school grounds, they found lots of woodlice!
491
As part of our Science topic, the children have been doing some planting. They had the choice to plant a vegetable, fruit or flower. They then took them home to look after and observe how they grow.
470
Today we started our new science topic- The Human Body. We drew around each other and labelled the body parts. We also sang heads, shoulders, knees and toes.
395
Today we looked at our body senses, focussing on sight. We went on a walk around the school grounds and drew what we could seeing using our eyes. We played blind beanbag throwing to compare how we threw the beanbag when we could see to how we threw the beanbag when we couldn’t see. We know we use our eyes for the sense of sight and we need light to help us see.
372
Year 5 made their own parachutes to investigate the affect of surface area on air resistance.
318
Melting chocolate! Today we designed an investigation to see which method melted chocolate the quickest. There were some fabulous observations and great discussion throughout. We even got to taste a bit of leftover chocolate afterwards.
375
In our Science lessons, we have been looking at our 5 senses. Today we explored our sense taste. We tried foods that were sour, salty and sweet.
244
Preschool have been planting spring bulbs in our spiritual garden. 🪴
We have planted these in a shape of a cross to remind us that God loves everyone. ❤️
We will watch and observe our bulbs grow throughout the seasons. ☺️
223
We were lucky enough to receive wildflowers seeds from Buglife and last week a group of children helped to plant these seeds. First they had to clear the area and then they scattered the seeds. They can’t wait to watch them grow and hope that they bring wildlife to our school.
113
As part of our seasonal changes Science topic, we went on a walk to spot the different sign to show it was the season Autumn.
124
The children have been exploring magnets and investigating if the size of the magnet affects the strength of the magnet.
11
Year 3 explored different objects around the classroom to see if they were magnet or non-magnetic.
13
A huge well done and thank you for all of your amazing homework projects. We can tell how much effort has gone into them. 🏅
23
As part of our Science topic on light, the children in Year 6 were creating their own shadow puppets. They had lots of fun experimenting with the different images that they could make by blocking the light with their hands! They also measured how the height of a shadow changes as the distance between a light source and an object changes.
1
Year 6 have been investigating how angles of reflection can help them see things that are behind them like a periscope using mirrors and working together.
